Open Positions

For those who would like to get more involved with TARANTULA8.COM we have a whole slew of positions you can sink your teeth into.  None take particularly strong technical ability.  Confidence with computers and the internet is of course important.  Some experience managing web applications would be useful too.  Keep in mind everything has been designed to be point and clickable, and with a little patience everything should be easy to learn.  It goes without saying that you should have an interest in tarantulas and other invertebrates, but your here reading this so I’m not sure it even need be mentioned.  The most important thing would be to have a little bit of time to spare here and there.  Make sure to read the volunteer guidelines below and if they are agreeable to you contact me.  Make sure to put Volunteer Position in the subject line and in the body briefly write about your computer and internet experience.  Don’t think of this as a resume, a couple of sentences will do.  Also please list what position(s) interest you.

OPEN POSITIONS

News Agent - If journalism is an interest of your this might be your position.  This involves keeping abreast (through the internet mostly I’d imagine) of goings-on in our hobby and posting here on this site to keep others informed.

Species Sheets Administrator - Keeps the species sheets up to date, adding as necessary and editing any information that gets noted as inaccurate.  This position might be front-loaded as there is some catching up to do.

Wiki Administrator - Wikis are, of course, like everything on this site, a community effort, but this position would be to keep everything running smooth.  This person and myself might want to put our heads together to layout some initial categories, but it’s ultimate direction would be up to the community.

Gallery Administrator - Pretty self-explanatory.  Keeps the gallery running smooth.  I will be rolling out self-upload functionality soon, but unfortuneitly now all images a member wishes to add must be sent to me, and eventually to this position, for manual posting.

Forum Moderators - How large the board gets will dictate how many of moderates are needed, but from the get go I think one or two would be a good idea.

VOLUNTEER GUIDELINES

1.  You are a volunteer, meaning you don’t owe TARANTULA8.COM, I, nor anybody else any amount of your time and skills, any amount of it you freely give is very much appreciated.

2.  Suffice to say, you may resign your volunteer status at any time if you feel you no longer have the time, ability, desire, (or any other reason) to devote to the tasks you volunteered for.  There will never be any hard feelings, but instead much appreciation for the effort you have put in.

3.  There is no set amount of time you need to put in, nor a specific time of day in which it must be done.  I only ask that the tasks you have volunteered for get done in a manner satisfactory to what was previously agreed to or {See 4} .  No methods have been set-up for, nor is there any desire to track your time.

4.  If a task can’t be accomplished due to available time or any other reason (remember a volunteer is never obligated), I ask that advanced notice be given if possible and convenient.

5.  You may take time off of your duties for whatever reason at any time.  Advanced notice, if possible and convenient, is appreciated so action may be taken to replace your duties while you are off.

6.  I ask that you make your best effort to get along with and respect your fellow volunteers and especially those in the tarantula.com community at large even if your opinions disagree with theirs.

7.  I ask that you do state your own opinions, ideas, and recommendations regarding TARANTULA8.COM matters even if they disagree with my own or anyone else’s.  Your opinions and ideas are valuable and I will be counting on them.

8.  I ask that you understand that I, the webmaster, reserve the right to make any final decisions and ask if it would not have been your decision that you not harbor any hard feelings and you continue to express your ideas, recommendations, and opinions.

9.  I reserve the right to relieve you from your volunteer duties at any time, for any reason.  I will never have any hard feelings as any amount of effort and time you have put in to the TARANTULA8.COM community is more than you needed to.  I hope that you would hold no hard feelings.

10.  I ask, if you think you would have hard feelings, hold a grudge, or feel you have been wronged by being relieved from your volunteer position for whatever reason, that you not volunteer at TARANTULA8.COM.
